San Francisco State University Marketing Association

VP of Programs, January 2015 - Present

At the SFSU Marketing Association (MA) we aim to give real world marketing experience to our members. We do this by going on company tours, inviting guest speakers, and working on marketing projects for other student groups and San Francisco Businesses. As the VP of programs I oversee a lot of our larger projects which go beyond the scope of just marketing activities. During spring 2016 I co-hosted the San Francisco State Marketing Department graduation. This involved a guest list over over 600 people, coordinating sponsors, managing ticket sales, and day of logistics. Overall the event was a great success in which we profited over $5,000, guest had a great time, and we learned a lot to improve next year's graduation.

SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY MARKETING ASSOCIATION

Stylist, April 2015 - Present

Since April I have been working at J.Crew at the mall in downtown San Francisco. While this is my first retail job I have been able to translate many of the skills learned at other employers to this one. The biggest skill I have been able to expand on is customer service. While I had learned the basics at Head Over Heels as an office administrator, I was able to put it into practice turning the skills into sales. By working truthfully and amicably with the customer I am able to push my sales up to $500 per hour on a given day, with a current average of over $300 per hour. This has been a fantastic position for me as I have loved fashion for a long time.

San Francisco State University Campus Recreation

Marketing and Office Assistant

I learned so much at this job. This is where I was introduced to photoshop, illustrator, and InDesign. I used a combination of these three applications to create posters and flyers for the department. I taught myself how to use the three applications in a short period of time by asking friends for help and Youtube videos. Besides the creative portion of my job I also did some office work. Including answering phones, student reach out, and file maintenance. I had a lot of fun working here but eventually left because I learned as much as I could at this position.

Head Over Heels Athletic Arts

Administrative Assistant/Coach,

At Head Over Heels I spent half of my time coaching kids between the ages of 6 months and 12 years. Beyond that my other tasks included office work. In the office I would answer phones, sell merchandise, and register kids. Another big part of my time was spent fundraising. As a non-profit we held a big fundraiser once a year. I would reach out to local companies seeking donation request. To do this I would call the various companies to get contact information so we could mail out sponsorship letters. We were able to meet our fundraising goal through a combination of cash donations and product donations for raffles and auctions. I have taken the skills I learned here and have begun to apply them to my current position at the SFSU Marketing Association.

Sarah's Science

After Care Camp Director, Summers 2007-2009

After starting out as a day camp counselor I was promoted to After Care Camp Director. I learned so much at this position. For the first time I was responsible not only for myself and 10 campers but also five counselors and about 45 kids. I had the added difficulty of working outside. During my time there we had one big emergency. We had a kid climb and fall out of a tree, on the way down he was badly cut. There was a fair amount of blood and given any other circumstance I would have been very scared and asked someone else for help, but I was the one everyone was going to look to. With about 30 other kids to look after I had two counselors take them away to distract them. I had another counselor render first aid while I looked through the emergency contact forms to contact their parents. In the end I was able to quickly defuse the situation, make sure every camper was looked after, and treat the injured kid. At the end of the day when I spoke to the kids mother she was very grateful for everything I did to help.

The Lawrence Hall of Science

TEAMS Intern (Volunteer), 2005 - 2009

I had an amazing experience as a TEAMS Intern at the Lawrence Hall of Science. I was very thankful to have it as my first job. As a part of the program we would attend monthly meeting throughout the year. At these meeting we would learn about the difference disciplines of science. We would also work on the museum floor, helping in the Bio Lab with the animals or in the Idea Lab working on small science project with kids. During the summer we got to do even more, we were able to sign up to help out in the summer camps. I would act as a junior counselor mostly making sure the campers were paying attention and staying safe. I also spent two summers as a counselor for their overnight camp in the Big Sur area. As a counselor I was responsible for a group of about 6 campers. I will never forget those summers as I learned a lot about responsibility for others and had some amazing experiences with my friends who were also counselors.
